Suffocation are widely recognized major innovators of death metal. They had a massive influence on the genre and pioneered the balance between brutal and technical sounds commonly heard in modern death metal. Frank Mullen is considered as one of the most emblematic death metal vocalists as well as one of the first to use a very deep "death growl" vocal style.

Suffocation (USA)

The band formed in 1997 after the break-up of a short-lived political hardcore band, Treblinka, with 2 former members of said band, vocalist J. R. Hayes (Enemy Soil), guitarist Scott Hull (Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Japanese Torture Comedy Hour, ex-Anal Cunt), and drummer John Evans, who left the band for an unspecified school not long after the band's formation. After the departure of Evans, he was soon replaced by Brian Harvey.

Prowler in the Yard, a fucking masterpiece released in 2001, was the first of the band's records to really break through to what could contextually be considered the "mainstream". Garnering rave reviews from popular press such as Kerrang! and Terrorizer, the record earned Pig Destroyer headlining slots at the 2002 New England Metal and Hardcore Festival and the 2002 Relapse Records CMJ Showcase.

The band kept on releasing albums, resulting in their 6th album in 2018, called "Head Cage".

Wolfbrigade always delivers. A-L-W-A-Y-S!

Formed as Wolfpack in 1995 by members of Anti Cimex (Swedish Hardcore), Obscure Infinity (Death Metal) and Harlequin (Melodic folk punk). The result became a mix of their previous musical efforts, but with a main direction leaning towards hardcore/crust.

Singer Tomas Jonsson was forced to leave the band in 1998 and was replaced by Micke. At around the same time, the band changed their name from Wolfpack to Wolfbrigade to avoid association with a Swedish neo-Nazi prison gang who shared that name. In 2002, drummer Frank left and was replaced by Dadde. The band split up in 2004 because of lack of motivation and Micke needing surgery for vocal cord problems. Four of the members started a new band, Today's Overdose.

On 7 January 2007, Wolfbrigade announced that they were reuniting. Wolfbrigade imported bassist Johan from Today's Overdose and released a comeback album, Prey to the World, in June 2007. In 2008, the group released Comalive. Wolfbrigade went on a one-year hiatus from playing live in 2011, and then regrouped for the release of Damned in 2012.

Wolfbrigade's last album The Enemy: Reality was released Fall 2019 through Southern Lord Records.



Wolfbrigade (SWE)

Emerging from the age of pandemic to whatever awaits humanity next, the Portuguese horde remains on the frontlines of the next generation of extreme metal. With an EP and two albums to their name, GAEREA has rapidly distinguished themselves from the thousands of bands toiling away in the underground. Brewing their cauldron of sound from a recipe of pounding black-metal blast mixed with a touch of harrowed, reflective longing, many devotees of the darkened arts have flocked to their banner. With the emergence of third full-length album Mirage, those numbers are sure to grow.

ROTTEN SOUND have firmly established themselves as one of the leading acts of the grindcore scene. Expertly wielding the fierce brutality and massive aggression of their genre, the Finns add intelligent songwriting, effective arrangements, and musical proficiency as well as subtle death metal elements to their sound.

Rotten Sound (FIN)

Swedish mangel veterans MASSGRAV have been dishing out rock n’ roll infused hyperspeed hardcore for the last 20 years, making them a loved, respected and yes, sometimes feared, part of the international hardcore punk scene. Maturing like French cheese - but smelling much better - Massgrav have consistently kept cranking their take on pissed off but melodic chaos yet another turn towards the max.

After breaking four consecutive drummers, the band settled on a long lasting line-up in 2010 and has since then taken their gospel of breakneck speed anger management to audiences worldwide. Providing a 24 carat live show satisfaction guarantee, Massgrav offers a free head exam to anyone who can resist their on stage charms.

After releasing the much acclaimed 2017 album Stockholm Rockers, Massgrav decided to live by the “more is more” rule and added guitarist Jesper Liveröd (ex Burst and Nasum) to the line-up. With a twin guitar setup, the band is now 100 percent equipped to deliver top quality entertainment on stage, as well as on the upcoming next album, which is currently in the works.

Though the band has generally flown under the radar, Gavle, Sweden's GADGET has roots that trace back to 1997. The band have always included influences from every genre they've been fond of, like doom, sludge, hardcore punk, death metal, black metal and more, never letting genre boundaries stand in their way. GADGET have proven themselves to be a relentless force live as well as on record. 

Gadget (SWE)

For over 30 years, Blockheads have set a course on the heart of original grindcore. Call it old school, call it political, all in all, they sticked to the idea of criticizing and analyzing the world as it is: cold, oppressive, bleak. They have released their sixth album in 2021 called "Trip to the Void". Their sonic punishing blastbeat and trademark neck-breaking grooves have never been sharper. Refined on stage with the likes of Napalm Death, Carcass or Mumakil and condensed into the span of sheer aggression.

Blockheads (FRA)

Formed in 1996, Helvetian four-piece NOSTROMO emerged in the middle of a bubbling hardcore scene powered by high-octane bands like Knut or Shora. 

Their violence-drenched sounding showcases the project’s exceptional virtuosity and intelligence, made up of accurate riffing, overpowering drums, hopping bass lines and intense tortured vocals. They quickly demoed and released a two-track 7”, followed a few years later by their debut studio album ‘Argue’ (1998, Snuff Records). Their EP ‘Eyesore’ came out in 2000 by Mosh Bart Industries/Bisect Bleep, then a split EP with French grindcore quintet Blockheads (2002, Shogun Records). 

Complex and technical, their masterpiece ‘Ecce Lex’ was released the same year through Overcome Records. The blue-chip musicianship as well as the uncompromising production - engineered by Mieszko Talarczyk of Swedish grindcore unit Nasum - raised the album to the rank of extreme metal reference. Somewhere between Napalm Death and Meshuggah, Nostromo’s skillfulness and fury hit the nail on the head. They started to tour relentlessly across Europe; live appearances alongside legends such as Slayer, Motörhead, Mastodon or Converge has fashioned the four juggernauts into a phenomenal live act. Nostromo released ‘Hysteron-Proteron’ in 2004 on Overcome Records. The album gathers acoustic versions of songs taken from their previous releases. A successful and acclaimed risk-taking.

In the mid 2000s, Nostromo split due to unsolvable tensions within the band. They reunited 11 years later for an informal private show. A few pictures posted on social networks were enough to spark things off: Gojira jumped at the chance to invite on their tour, shortly before the mighty Hellfest added them to their 2017 edition lineup. Galvanized by this substantial interest, Nostromo rose from the ashes and released their EP ‘Narrenschiff’ in 2019.

Nostromo recently inked a deal with Swiss record label Hummus Records (founded by the band Coilguns) and announced the release of their fourth studio album ‘Bucephale’ on October 28th 2022.


Nostromo (SUI)

Teething (Madrid, Spain) will blast you away with their uncomprimising grindcore / powerviolence. When your drummer loves shit like Brujeria and Napalm Death - hence the Morbid Angel patch he bought at the age of 15. And the other dudes love Integrity and grindcore. Throw in a smelly bass player that looks like a homeless asshole and you get one filthy sounding band.

Teething (SPAIN)

Everything Is Noise on their latest album (Dystopia): Six years is a long time for any band to take between albums, but can you really complain when the long wait is compensated with something like this? On Dystopia, Teethgrinder are an entirely different unit of brute proportions than on their previous albums, and honestly, the reincarnation has done wonders for them. This doesn’t diminish the greatness of their past works in the slightest either, but goes to show that the band are on an upward trajectory that will eventually lead them atop untold heights. Dystopia is a work of art that will undoubtedly stand the test of time, proving to be an enjoyable and gripping experience to anyone who dares to dip their feet into the murk of the band’s making.

Teethgrinder (NL)

KRUELTY is Japanese hardcore/death metal band formed in Tokyo. They have been a band since 2017 and have released a few demos, EPs and three splits.

The Kruelty sound is heavily influenced by some east-coast and Japanese heavy hardcore bands like All Out War, No Retreat, One Second Thought, Redline, early SAND, Dyingrace and Second to None (JP) as well as some death doom like Anatomia, Asphyx, Coffins, Cianide, Funebrarum, Purtenance and Undergang. Also some Crust punk and Grindcore bands are our favorites. 

1st full length album called "A Dying Truth" was released through Daymare Recordings/ Profound Lore Records in March 2020 and they also made kinda "Quarantined EP" which contains 2 re-recorded songs and 1 cover song in this strange time.

And they're coming over to Europe for the first time!

Kruelty (JAP)

Clean your underwear, Gronibard is back! After 14 years of deafening silence that nobody has necessarily missed, the grindcore quintet returned in 2022 with ‘Regarde Les Hommes Sucer’, a new album that smells of the anus and other delicate aromas. Faithful to its original values, Gronibard deliberately remains – given the limited skills of each of its members, this is in any case the communication strategy that the group has adopted – stupid and limited to what happens under the belt.

Generally wearing only their instruments on stage, the members of Gronibard are quality people, which the marital status of the group’s line up proves top notch: Anal Capone (vocals), Albatard (bass), Godemichel (drums), Necronembourg (lead guitar and vocals), Merdic (backup guitar).

Message to all headbangers: you are not done with having a headache.
P.S. to fans of the band – hide your dongs well, Gronibard is back!

Gronibard (FR)

Mortiferum’s music exists in near-total darkness. The Olympia death/doom quartet builds labyrinths out of suffocating atmosphere, pounding drums, and churning squalls of detuned guitar. Only when your eyes adjust can you see an occasional sunbeam penetrating the gloom—a snaking, melodic lead or a clatter of cymbals that interrupts the slow march and sends the band into a headlong hurtle. 

Mortiferum (USA)

INHUME is a no nonsense grinding death metal band from The Netherlands, blasting the underground scene since 1994.

Characterized by an ever-shifting lineup not dissimilar from their disgustingly mushy, oft-fast-decaying subject matter, Inhume members including (but not limited to) vocalists Dorus and Dennis, guitarist Ben, bassist Loek, and drummer Remco collaborated on two demos and a split release with Germany's Blood before committing their first album being 2000's Decomposing From Inside.

Formed in the summer of 2013 and based in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK); Live Burial was founded with the aim of recreating the old school aesthetic of Death Metal, drawing from such influences like Asphyx, Death, Obituary, Autopsy and Bolt Thrower. Unashamedly and unapologetically vintage in sound and presentation, Live Burial are less about re-inventing the genre, and more about bludgeoning it with a profound and asphyxiating wall of noise.  

Since self releasing a three track demo in 2013, and a four track EP in 2014, Live Burial would come to work with Extreme Metal Label Dunkelheit Produktionen to release their debut album “Forced Back To Life” to general and widespread acclaim in 2016.

The band have signed to Transcending Obscurity Records since 2018, and released their sophomore record “Unending Futility” in 2020. Kicking things up several notches, Unending Futility is a record which continues the mantra of profound and punishing Death Metal, engulfed with the Old School sound.

The band will be releasing their third record “Curse of the Forlorn” in Autumn 2022 via Transcending Obscurity. Refining the template as set out on “Unending Futility”, this record promises bigger riffs, more intricate song writing, wilder solos, and more haunting vocals.

Who the hell doesn't love Belgian hardcore? Reproach knows how to bring it fast, short and furious. With pinches of fastcore and powerviolence, a full spoon of thrash and hardcore and a big kettle full of energy!

Reproach (BE)

Consolation started back in 1989 when a couple of friends from the Zaanse metal scene are being infected with the metal virus. Young dogs with guitars and a drum set. The first tunes played were the sounds of Death/Doom metal. After a name change, a demo and a few line-up changes, the band started to take shape in 1991. Soon the first CD 'Beautyfilth' was released as a split CD by the relatively new label Displeased.

After having successfully destroyed a lot off venues in many countries, the magic somewhat disappeared at the end of the nineties. In the form of 'Cardinal' (furious Death/Grind) and 'FuckFace' (pure Grind) several members successfully continued until the musical paths really split, somewhere around 2003. 

However, blood goes where it can't go. In 2019 the band was asked to do a reunion show, if the band is up to it? Not really having lost sight of each other, enthusiastically the boys came together for a first rehearsal after almost twenty years. As never before, the atmosphere and motivation were great and the musicianship even better. Eventually, after the Corona period of almost two years, the first performance took place in 2022 at the Stonehenge festival. A huge success which makes the band decide to continue for a while. The fire has been rekindled and it feels good to be back!!

Consolation (NL)

Adrestia's music is a mix of crust punk and old school Swedish death metal. The lyrics are mostly reflections of the time we're living in, the conflicts, the dictators, the religious freaks, the fundamentalists and the freedom for which we all yearn.

The members are/have been involved with other bands such as Shades Of Grey, Future Ruins, Håll Keft and Snake Tongue.

Adrestia (SWE)

Ripped to Shreds began as guitarist/vocalist/founding member Andrew Lee’s solo endeavor to prove to himself that he could grind it alone—including on the drums. Now, after just six years, Ripped to Shreds have become a singular force in modern underground death metal. 
 
Since the Bay Area deathdealer’s 2018 debut, the full-length 埋葬 (Mai-zang), Andrew has considered it also his mission to gain more recognition for Asian-American metal musicians. His intentions with Ripped to Shreds were “to increase the visibility of ABCs (American-born Chinese)  in extreme metal by being very blatantly Chinese.”
 
Does this mean Ripped to Shreds are a political band, then? We know that alongside his band’s fiery rise, Andrew has stood up as a vocal opponent against racism. “Being a minority in America is inherently political,” Andrew says. “The way that we present ourselves live, our album, our artwork, our titles, our lyrics . . . all of it needs to show elements of Chinese culture. That’s been the whole concept of Ripped to Shreds since the very beginning.”


Ripped to Shreds (USA)

RAW PEACE (four punks you might know from the likes of Blind To Faith, Imaginary Dictionary, Reproach or Agathocles) spit out furious hardcore that lands somewhere between Scandicrust (Kaaos, No Security), Japcore (G.I.S.M., Zouo) and the newer wave of hardcore (Warthog, S.H.I.T.)

Lyrically, they pick at the festering wounds of the human psyche: war, abuse of power, state control, violence, human nature, genocide and paranoia.


Raw Peace (BE)

LIFESICK got on the radar of the international hardcore/metal community via their debut album, 6.0.1., a nasty collection of tracks released by Southern Lord Records in 2016. 

The Danish outfit are practioners of a strain of metallic hardcore that recalls both the glory years of Sunlight Studios and the H8000 era. 

Three years after the release of ‘Swept In Black’, Lifesick from Fredericia, Denmark are back with their third studio album ‘Misanthropy’ out February 11th, 2022 via Isolation Records. After releasing their debut album “6 0 1” on Southern Lord Recordings and it’s follow up ‘Swept In Black’ on Isolation Records in 2018, Lifesick released ‘Misanthropy’ into the world. Whilst perfectly blending raw death metal sounds with a punk attitude and extreme rage, Lifesick manage to retain an outstanding texture to their music which goes to show that the Danes know exactly what they are doing. The new album consists of no-nonsense and to the bone metallic hardcore.

Formed in 2019, Gates to Hell of Louisville, KY bring high energy and a good blend of Death Metal and Hardcore to the stage. Crushing breakdowns mixed with fast metal riffs and a bit of chaos to leave you on the edge of your seat, Gates To Hell brings a performance like no other.
